To get things started at GameMats.Com we are doing what amounts to a soft launch with two different 6' X 4' game mats, Purgatory and Gamma Station. We're still hammering a few nails and getting some things finalized during this phase of our launch so you may notice some organizational changes over time to how the shop is organized.
We're also busy resolving some shipping mechanics so expect some ongoing announcements as we expand the locations that we ship to. For the moment, if your country isn't listed as shipping available there are a couple of workarounds. You can either email us directly at "email@example.com" for a shipping quote or you can purchase your game mat via our eBay store where we ship globally using eBay's Global Shipping Program. EBay's GSP will tell you exactly what it'll cost to ship a game mat to you before you commit to buy. Our eBay seller ID is: game_mats.
Remember, if you are in the continental US, your mat ships FREE, whether you buy from GameMats.Com or on eBay at game_mats. If you are outside the continental US and want to buy on GameMats.Com, email us for a discount code that you can use on the website to defray some of the shipping cost.
Now for the good stuff, MORE GAME MATS ! …and other things too!
We're already well along in the concept and design phase for our next few game mats
Although we're not quite ready to reveal specific details or names for these next game mats, there will be two brand new 6' X 4' designs and corresponding 4' X 4' versions. At this release we will also have the 4' X 4' versions of Purgatory and Gamma Station. Going forward you should anticipate new releases every few weeks. At the pace we're currently working, by the time a set of mats have finished production and begun the process of being packaged and shipped, the next designs in the queue will be getting final approval for production.
While we have a list of ideas we're working from for new game mat designs, we want to remain flexible and we really want to hear from YOU! Do you think there's a portion of the wargaming community needs more options for game mats? Hit us up via our Facebook or Twitter and tell us how you want to use game mats or what back drop you want to put your miniatures on? We'd love to hear from you. You may also be gifted a copy of the mat if we use your idea, so tell us what you want!
But what else is on the GameMats.Com horizon?
Well... this is probably a good time to mention that we also have some 3D printable terrain in the works! If you're following any of our various social media accounts, you will have already seen some WIP images and comments from us about some of these projects.
Our 3D printable terrain will complement and bring your GameMats to life with actual features and set dressing. It's our goal to offer terrain that works within the themes of GameMats.Com and also suppliment terrain offerings from some other established tabletop wargaming companies.
All of this terrain is going to be available here on GameMats.com as downloadable .stl files that you can print at home on your 3D printer. Our goal is to create good quality models that are optimized for 3D printing on consumer level 3D printers currently available in the marketplace at a reasonable entry cost.
3D printing technology is getting better and less expensive at a rapid pace. The entry point for a good quality 3D printer is becoming more accessible every day. Truthfully, you can get a pretty decent 3D printer for less than the cost of a current generation video game console and they just keep getting better all the time. We're excited about this and we hope you will be too!
But that's not all! As we move forward you can look for content via this website and YouTube where we'll show you how to get started with 3D printing, tools and techniques, pitfalls to avoid, and much more. In an ongoing series we'll show you how to take a low cost GOOD quality 3D printer and make it a GREAT 3D printer just by modding it and upgrading components a little at a time. (Because, if you're in this hobby, you're probably already a tinkerer who likes to modify and improve things and this should be right in your wheel house).
Because we're all about that narrative gaming, you can also expect to see some DIY tutorials for terrain and techniques to spice up your game mats and really make your wargame battlefields fun and immersive. We're also exploring some ideas on how to share with you tools and techniques that we use to create gaming terrain and scenery.
